How to Sell on Empik Marketplace: Registration and Commissions

Empik Marketplace is one of the most-visited stores in Poland, but it doesn't let everyone in — your existing customer rating is one of the factors that decides whether you get accepted. We've gathered the registration requirements, real commission rates and logistics rules so you know what to expect before you list your first offer.

How to Sell on Empik Marketplace? The Short Answer

To sell on Empik Marketplace (the platform is officially called EmpikPlace), you have to meet five conditions: have a registered business in the EU, demonstrate a good reputation — an average rating of at least 4.5 and roughly 98% positive reviews from another sales channel — pass account verification (usually within one business day), set up an account with the payment operator Przelewy24, and add an offer in the right category while shipping orders from within the EU. On every transaction Empik charges a category-dependent commission of roughly 2.5–15.5% net, calculated on the gross value of the entire order (including the delivery cost). Below we break each of these steps down into its component parts and point out where new sellers most often trip up.

What Empik Marketplace Is and Who It Makes Sense For

Empik Marketplace is a platform that lets third-party sellers list their own offers on empik.com — alongside the assortment owned by Empik itself. The buyer sees a single, consistent product page, while you as a seller tap into the traffic and recognition of a brand that for decades was associated with books and is today a full-scale store with electronics, toys, cosmetics, home goods and groceries.

Empik’s biggest advantage is customer trust and its audience profile — these are often people who buy deliberately, value the brand and are keen to use the loyalty program and the Empik Premium subscription (free delivery). For a seller that means lower price sensitivity than on other platforms and a genuine chance to stand out beyond the categories where competition is fought on price alone.

Empik is not, however, a substitute for Allegro — it’s more of a complementary channel. Traffic is lower and the assortment is more strongly skewed toward books, media, culture, toys, home and lifestyle. If you’re wondering where to bet first, it’s worth comparing both channels against your own assortment — a separate comparison will help: Allegro or Empik — where to sell. For most stores the best answer is ‘both,’ but with a clear hierarchy of which channel is primary and which adds margin on products matched to Empik’s audience.

Prerequisites — Will You Even Qualify?

This is the most important difference between Empik and most marketplaces: Empik vets the seller before letting them in. It’s not enough to create an account and list an offer — you have to prove that you’re a trustworthy partner. Check whether you meet the conditions before you invest time in registration.

Business Registration and Experience

Only businesses can sell — you need an active, registered business in an EU member state. Empik also expects a certain track record: in practice people talk about a minimum of roughly 3 months of active e-commerce sales (approximate figures — confirm the current requirements on the EmpikPlace site). Selling from a private account or dropshipping without a registered business is ruled out from the start.

The Rating Requirement — a Minimum of 4.5 and 98% Positive Reviews

This is the famous ‘rating requirement’ that so many questions circulate about. Empik checks your reputation in other channels — on other marketplaces, in your own store and very often in your Google Business Profile (Google reviews). The bar is real:

  • An average rating of at least 4.5/5 — calculated from your existing reviews.
  • Around 98% positive reviews, if you don’t yet sell on empik.com and have to demonstrate a reputation from another platform.
  • A publicly visible, active offer and price list at the time of verification.

If you’re just starting out and have no review history, build it before you apply: tidy up your Google Business Profile, collect reviews from current orders in another channel and stay on top of timeliness. A rating below 4.5 is the most common reason an application is rejected, and rebuilding a reputation takes weeks, not days.

Readiness Checklist Before Registration

  • An active business in the EU and a NIP/VAT number.
  • An average rating ≥ 4.5 and a high share of positive reviews (Google, another marketplace, your own store).
  • A few months of documented online sales.
  • A business bank account for payouts and readiness to register with Przelewy24.
  • A product catalog with solid descriptions, photos and EAN codes.
  • A defined shipping time and at least one delivery method.

Registration Step by Step

The form itself is simple — the difficulty lies in meeting the conditions above. The process looks like this:

  1. Submitting the application. On the EmpikPlace site you choose the ‘Become a seller’ option and fill in the form with your company details. Completing it takes a few minutes.
  2. Verification. Empik checks your company details and your reputation. Verification usually takes up to one business day (approximately — it can be longer with incomplete data).
  3. Registering with Przelewy24. Settlements go through the payment operator Przelewy24. You have to set up an account there and usually make a test transfer (about 1.5 zł) confirming the account. Without an active account with the operator, payouts won’t start.
  4. Configuring the seller account. You set delivery methods and times, return policies, invoicing details and shipping zones.
  5. Adding the offer. You attach products to existing product pages (by EAN) or create new ones. The offer goes on sale after approval.

Attaching an offer by EAN codes is crucial: Empik works on shared product pages, so an accurate EAN means you join an existing page instead of creating a duplicate. With a larger assortment, listing manually and then keeping stock levels in check becomes costly — more on that in the logistics section.

Commissions on Empik Marketplace — What You’ll Really Pay

Empik makes money on a sales commission, not on a subscription. That’s good news for those just starting out: there are no activation fees, subscription fees or listing fees — you pay only a commission on what you actually sell.

The official commission range is roughly 2.5–15.5% net, depending on the category (which after adding VAT works out to roughly 3–19% gross). On average, most partners fall in the range of about 5–15%. Below are sample rates for selected categories — treat them as approximate and, before calculating your margin, check the current commission schedule in the seller panel or in Empik’s official PDF, because the rates are updated from time to time.

Category (example) Approximate net commission
Food ~5.5%
School textbooks ~7%
Musical instruments ~8%
Gaming and software ~8.5%
Electronics / automotive ~9%
Supermarket ~11%
Home appliances ~12%
Clothing ~13%
Stationery ~15%

Watch how it’s calculated. The commission is charged on the gross value of the entire order — including the delivery cost. That’s a trap for sellers who inflate shipping costs to lower the product price: you’ll pay commission on the more expensive delivery too. In your margin calculation, always factor in the commission on the full amount the customer pays.

Empik also regularly runs welcome programs for new sellers — this might be, for example, 0% commission for the first few months or a promotional package in Empik Ads. The terms of such campaigns change over time, so treat them as approximate information and confirm the current offer directly with Empik before you build ‘0% commission’ into your financial model.

How Commission Affects Price and Margin

A simple example: you sell a product for 100 zł gross plus 15 zł delivery. At a commission of roughly 12% gross charged on 115 zł, you’ll pay Empik about 13.8 zł. On top of that come the cost of buying the goods, packaging, the courier and handling returns. Only after subtracting all of these items will you see your real margin — which is why the commission has to be written into the calculation before you set the price, not counted ‘at the end.’ If you sell in parallel on several platforms, it’s worth comparing the full costs of each channel; the breakdown in the article on Allegro commissions can help, where the same ‘count from the full amount’ logic leads to surprising conclusions.

Categories and Assortment — What You Can Sell

Empik offers a very broad category structure (roughly several hundred categories across a dozen or so main departments), but the platform’s profile still leans toward media and culture. The best sellers here are:

  • books, e-books, audiobooks, music and films,
  • toys, board games and gaming,
  • electronics, accessories and small home appliances,
  • cosmetics and drugstore items,
  • home goods, stationery, hobby and lifestyle.

What you can’t sell: adult products, alcohol, weapons, counterfeits and other goods prohibited by the terms of service. Before you choose your leading category, check not only the commission but also the real competition on the product pages — on Empik it’s easier to stand out in a niche than in the most crowded electronics categories.

Logistics, Delivery and Maintaining Account Quality

Listing an offer is only the beginning — Empik judges a seller by how they fulfill orders. Stick to a few rules:

  • Shipping from within the EU. Goods must be shipped from an EU member state.
  • Confirming orders quickly. You have a short window to confirm or reject an order (roughly a dozen or so hours) — exceeding it damages your account metrics.
  • Delivery methods. You must offer at least one delivery method; Empik also enables an additional channel — pickup at Empik stores, which can be an asset for customers.
  • Quality metrics. To rank in search results and qualify for the Empik Premium program, keep your order-acceptance rate above about 98% and your average seller rating at at least 4.5.

Empik Premium and Offer Visibility

Empik Premium is a paid subscription on the customer side that gives them free delivery and other benefits. For the seller, though, what matters most is that offers qualifying for Premium gain higher visibility — a better position in search results and highlighting on the product page. In practice, joining the program can be one of the strongest sales levers on Empik, but it requires maintaining high account-quality metrics (order-acceptance rate, rating, timeliness) and accepting the delivery terms the program expects. Before you decide, calculate whether the cost of free delivery fits within your margin — otherwise the higher visibility will eat into your profit.

Visibility is also affected by the Buy Box mechanism — the selection of the default offer on a shared product page. When several sellers offer the same product, which offer becomes the primary one added to the cart is decided by a set of factors: total price including delivery, shipping time, account metrics and product availability. That’s why simply attaching to an existing page doesn’t guarantee sales — you have to be competitive on total cost and service quality, not merely present on the list of offers.

Settlements and Payouts

Funds from customers go through the payment operator Przelewy24 and are then paid out to your business account on a set cycle (approximate figures — confirm the exact frequency and dates in the EmpikPlace terms of service and with the operator). In practice this means the cash from a sale doesn’t reach you immediately — plan your liquidity with a buffer, especially at seasonal peaks when you restock goods faster than payouts come in. Empik deducts the commission from the settlement, so the amount that reaches your account is already reduced by the fee due.

The biggest operational risk in multichannel selling is overselling — selling on Empik a unit that a moment earlier went out on Allegro or in your own store. This ends in a cancellation, lower account metrics and a negative review — and therefore a direct hit to the 4.5 rating requirement. That’s why stock levels should sync automatically across all channels instead of being corrected by hand — more on the mechanics of this problem in the article on how to avoid overselling.

With a single channel you’ll manage by hand. With Empik plus Allegro plus your own store, the number of orders, stock levels and labels grows to the point where a spreadsheet stops being enough — that’s when sellers reach for marketplace integrators that tie offers, stock and shipping together in one panel (an overview of the options: the best marketplace integrators in Poland). Nimo will belong to that same category of tools — a Polish panel for multichannel e-commerce that we’re building to bring Allegro, Empik and other channels together in one place.

Invoices, VAT and KSeF

Selling on Empik is business selling, so the standard rules for invoicing and VAT settlements apply to you — and from 2026 there’s the mandatory National e-Invoicing System (KSeF) on top of that. If you sell on several platforms, issuing and archiving invoices in one place saves a lot of time; we covered the basics and the timeline in the guide KSeF 2026 for e-commerce sellers. It’s worth setting up your invoicing process right at the start rather than catching up after your first hot month of sales.

The Most Common Mistakes of New Sellers

  • Applying without a reputation. Submitting an application when your rating is below 4.5 is an almost certain rejection. Build reviews first, then apply.
  • Commission added ‘at the end.’ Setting the price without including the commission on the full amount (with delivery) eats into your margin.
  • Inflated delivery. An artificially high shipping cost also raises the commission and discourages Empik Premium customers.
  • Manual stock. A lack of stock synchronization leads to overselling and cancellations, which damage your 4.5 rating.
  • Wrong category and weak product pages. An incorrect EAN and poor descriptions and photos lower conversion and visibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does selling on Empik Marketplace cost?

There are no activation fees or subscription — you pay only a sales commission of roughly 2.5–15.5% net (about 3–19% gross) depending on the category, charged on the gross value of the entire order including the delivery cost. Check the exact rate for your category in the current EmpikPlace commission schedule.

Do I need a 4.5 rating to sell on Empik?

Yes, reputation is a condition of entry. Empik expects an average rating of at least 4.5 and a high share of positive reviews (roughly about 98%), drawn from other channels — for example from Google reviews, another marketplace or your own store. If you don’t have such a history, build it first and only then submit your application.

Can I sell on Empik as a private individual?

No. A registered business in an EU member state is required, along with meeting the conditions regarding experience and reputation. Selling from a private account is not possible.

How quickly will I pass verification and start selling?

Account verification itself usually takes up to one business day, provided your company details are complete and your reputation meets the requirements. Before you actually launch there’s still registration with the payment operator Przelewy24 (with a test transfer) and preparing your offers, so realistically plan a few days for a full launch.

Does Empik also charge commission on the delivery cost?

Yes. The commission is charged on the gross value of the entire order — that is, the product price plus the delivery cost and VAT. That’s why it doesn’t pay to artificially inflate the shipping cost — on a higher delivery charge you’ll pay a higher commission too.
